Jon Lucas is a British digital fine artist whose practice explores memory, time, and the traces embedded within surface. Through processes of layering, erosion, obscuring, and excavation, he creates works that examine how marks accumulate, fragment, and persist.
Drawing on a foundation in sculpture, printmaking, and digital media, he approaches the digital image as a site of archaeology rather than representation. Layers of texture, gesture, and atmosphere emerge through acts of construction and removal, revealing visual histories that suggest both presence and absence.
His work occupies a space between abstraction and landscape, where weathered surfaces, fading structures, and fragmented traces evoke the passage of time and the instability of memory. Rather than describing specific places or events, the images invite reflection on what remains after experience has passed, and how meaning is carried through residue, repetition, and transformation.
Through an intuitive yet reflective process, he creates contemplative works that explore the emotional and material significance of surface, inviting viewers to engage with the traces, absences, and accumulations held within each image.
