Incidental Marks emerges from an ongoing exploration of process and material interaction, bringing unplanned gestures, traces and unforeseen events to the forefront. Marks that might once have been considered peripheral become central, revealing quiet narratives of time, movement and presence that resonate throughout my wider practice.
Appearing through interruption, hesitation and excess, these forms occupy the space between intention and outcome. Materials resist, redirect and assert their own agency, while drips, smears, fractures and imprints are retained as evidence of the work's becoming. Rather than being corrected or concealed, these occurrences are embraced, allowing the work to record its own history and transforming what might otherwise be dismissed as error.
Authorship becomes a shared condition. The artist's hand works in dialogue with material behaviour, gravity, timing and surface, each layer preserving earlier actions while introducing new disruptions. Time accumulates rather than progresses linearly, compressing multiple moments into a single field of experience.
